The latter raced wide on the turns, but closed up steadilv in the homestretch and was gaining at the end. BLANCHITA set the ea rly. pace and hung on gamely in the stretch drive. SIR WILLIAM JOnNSON could never get to tb.e leaders. CONNING TOWER was practically left at the post and closed a big gap. SALON ran weU..
