Tiie small and evenly-matched fields, starling in most of Mm races this afternoon, served to furnish entertaining sport for a large crowd that journeyed to the Kentueky Assoeiutions course. The weather was ideal and :i contributing factor to good racing. The speculators again fared in sumptuous fashion, as .first choices were successful in most of tlie races. They inaugurated their victories in the opener when John W. Klein, from the .loJin W. Schorr stable, was uncovered as a "good tiling," and won after a sharp drive to dispose of .Miss K niter. The secor.d race found .1. Kufus the favored one, sind lie had little difficulty in showing the way home. Adair Sc Makers Rringhurst. collided with Amazon in the third race?, was an outstanding choice :md lie passed John Jr. in the stretch to win easily. Manager Waite was the next favorite and. showing good form, led Aldebaran, his closest follower, all the way. to the finish ly a half length. Cash on Delivery was the next successful choice and. this veteran racer from Jefferson Livingstons stable, owed his success to Gooses superior riding ability, for with jockeys reversed, Luzzi would have won. netting activity in this ring this afternoon was vastly in excess of any former day at this meeting and this too, in spite of the fact, that two of the races, did not afford opportunity for show wagering. Jockey K. Martin will not be seen in the saddle again this year on account of sustaining this morning a fracture to his right leg above the ankle. The mishap followed Americas work-out of three-quarters. Martin had brought the filly to a standstill and was allowing her a breathing spell when Brown Velvet, with the exercise lad H. I.unsford up. going at full tilt, crashed into the McDowell filly before Martin could get. her out of the way. The collision threw both racers and riders. I.unsford escaped injury, but Martin, in addition to the broken leg, sustained several cuts about the head. Roy I. "Martin, who recently arrived from Kl Paso, bid John W. McDowell stated that he was unable to determine for the present the extent of Americas injury. It. D. Williams bought at private terms today the horse Kootenay from 15. Williams of Detroit. J. G.
