STAR HAWKS LAWRENCE REALIZATION. Defeats Spur and Crimper in a Fast Run Race Roamcr-Stromboli Race Declared Off. New York, September 9. Perfect racing weather, an excellent card ami a tremendous crowd marked " the filial Saturday of racing for the season at Bel- I mont Park. The Lawrence Realization was the big , feature of the day and it brought Spur, Crimper and " Star Hawk together over the mile and a half route. The big crowd received with regret, notice of the declaring off of the special sweepstakes, in which Stromboli and Roamcr were to have met. The match was declared off because S. C. Hildreth. ; trainer of Stromboli. declined to race over the track, which was not at its best after yesterdays rain. It had dried out sufficiently to warrant the running of the race, it was thought, and the declaring oft of the event was a disappointment. The race will not be run Monday, as it was expected it would be in the event of a postponement. A. K. Macombers Knglish colt. Star Hawk won the Lawrence Realization Stakes from as smart a field of three-year-olds as could be mustered. Star Hawk went into the lead early and ran the first mile in 1:41, with Crimper second and Spur third. When the field straightened out for home Spur made his move on the outside and soon lapped on Crimper, which fell back. Spur then set sail for Star Hawk and it appeared when a quarter of a mile from the finish, that the Butler colt would win, but Star Hawk had something left and responded gamely to the urging of jockey : Phillips. At tlu finish the Macomber colt was three parts of a length in front of Spur. The race which was worth ,775 to the winner, was run in fast time. 11:3:1. which is within two-fifths of a second of the track record. Following the victory of Star Hawk, owner Macomber said, while receiving the congratulations of his friends: "It was worth while waiting the whole season to see Star Hawk win todays race. It demonstrates fully that we have a great colt. Now that he is thoroughly acclimated, we can look for him to do still liettcr and come back to the races next year like a champion." S. C. Hildreth stated that his reason for declaring olT the Stromboli -Roamcr race entirely, was that it would have caused Strombolis work days to fail too close together if the race should have been scheduled for Monday, and. as the horse lias always been rather delicate, he decided against going on with the race on Monday. Additional interest was lent to the Lawrence Realization today from the fact that the Garth contingent had wagered ,500 with James Rowe and other turfmen, that Crimper would defeat Spur in the race, one of the horses to finish placed. The Corinthian Steeplechase Handicap drew an addeil starter in Quel Bonheur. The event was worth ,100 net. and Duke of Duluth proved the winner over Quel Bonheur ami Bill Dudley. Pe-bcto fell in the second turn of the field. Fellowship was best in the Quogue Handicap, in which he beat some fair horses at one mile and a sixteenth. The winner and Malachite finished along the cuter rail, with the other two on the inside. Abe Garson was a visitor today after having been in Pennsylvania for some time purchasing army horses for the French government. The conditions for the Hunt meeting at Rumson, X. J. were distributed today. The entries close September 9 and the racing is for one day only September 10. J. H. McDonald was an arrival from Detroit. His two recent, purchases are at Havre de Grace in charge of T. J. Shannon, who reported to Mr. McDonald that both horses were doing well.
