ED CHUMP AN EASY VICTOR DEFEATS FAUX-C0L AND LADY ROTHA IN DOUGLAS PARK MAIN RACE. favorites Take Most of the Races E. R. Bradley and J. Livingston Win Their First Races of the Meeting Track Talk. Louisville, Ky., September 22. A. K. Macom-bers Ed Crump accounted for the chief race of the day at Douglas Park in a fashion that clearly indicated that he Avas by far the best of those engaged in the race, for he Avas given a badlv-judged ride that cost the horse a Avoild or ground. In spite of the Avide course his jockey guided him he Avon Avith consummate ease from Faux-Col, which outstayed Lady Rotha for second place. The victory Avas a popular one, for the horse Avas an overwhelming favorite. Delightful Aveather conditions again prevailed and contributed extensively towards bringing out the full strength of racing patrons in these parts. The sport was interesting and much relished. The speculators had a big inning, for most of their choices Avere successful. Speculation Avas in excess of that of any former day, but short prices ruled against most of the Avinners. E. R. Itradley managed to Avin his first purse of the meeting Avlien Anthonys Lass got home before a bad band that opposed her in the opener. Jefferson Livingston Avas another owner to Avin his first purse of the meeting Avhen Julia L., scored in easy fashion from Deliver and Rhvnie, another favorite, scurried to the finish in advance of eleven other youngsters, but had to be driven hard to outstay her opposition. Jockey Murphys energetic riding of Rapids brought, an improvement in that fillys running and accounted for her victory over the favorite AVamla Pitzer. The finish in this race between Rapids, AVanda Pitzer and Rigtodo Avas a thriller. AV. L. Powers, of the Powers-Hunter Company, has bought Huntress and the mare will be shipped to Raltimore tomorrow. Hal Price Ileadley, president of the Thoroughbred Horse .Association, came over from Lexington this afternoon. Other visitors from the same city included Garrett D. AVilson and James P. Ross. A. K. Macomber and a party of friends Avere visitors at the track and Avituessed the performance of Ed Crump in the feature race. They Avill remain over tomorrow for the Louisville Cup, for which Mr. Macomber lias three representatives named to start. It. J. Mackenzie. avIio is racing a good stable here. Avas an arrival during the day and will remain several days to enjoy the sport. A casual inquiry among owners as to their winter racing intentions, brought a request for stable room for 150 horses that are to be shipped to New Orleans for the racing there. J. P.. Campbell is Compiling the list for Joseph A. Murphy. On report, of patrol judge Phillips, jockey Lilley was suspended for five days by the stewards for rough riding in the first race.
