RAIN AND MUD AT LATONIA UNFAVORABLE WEATHER CONDITIONS DO NOT PREVENT GOOD RACING. Typhoon an Easy Winner of the Feature Race of tho Day Apple Jack Defeats Ben Hampson Suit Acaiast Hachmeistcr Postponed. Cincinnati, O., October 9. Racing conditions this afternoon were anything but suitable for the sport. A hard rain during the morning hours caused the course to become heavy, while the threatening weather kept attendance down considerably, although a goodly crowd of racing devotees braved a threatened storm to be on hand. The sport, considering the conditions, was all that could be desired, several of the finishes being close and exciting. A handicap at one mile and an eighth was the outstanding feature and resulted in victory for the consistent Typhoon, which was heavily supported. He led from barrier rise and held John W. Klein, his most persistent opponent, safe In the stretch racing. An upset attended the opening dash when Apple Jack won from Ben Hamnson and Quin. The latter two had absorbed most of the speculative attention. Lady Mexican, under a well-judged ride on the part of L. Lykes, managed to slip through along the inner rail ill the stretch to down the well-meant Martrc in the second. Rhyme was neglected in favor of Highland Lassie and Bullion for the third race, and Murphy rushed him into the lead at once and kept him there all the way. Bullion was away poorly and, after going three-eighths Goose eased him up. Milestone was thought to be best in the fifth, but Filigree led him for the entire way and won by a length. The case against manager Hachmeistcr for his failure to secure a license for racing at Latonia, as required by the ordinance recently passed by the Covington council, was to have come up for hearing this morning in the Covington police court, but by mutual const nt of all the interested parties, the hearing was postponed until next Friday.
