PENALTY FOR HARBORING RUNAWAYS. In the last two issues of the Racing Calendar, and since the sport came to a close in New York, there have been a number of notices published calling attention to runaway stable boys, and warning horsemen not to employ or harbor them without the consent of their former employers. In the issue just out, notice is given that Sam Brown, exercise boy for William Walker, and L. Ensor, exercise boy for Edward McBride, have left their employers without consent or a written discharge. In the previous issue notice was given that A. Campbell had left H. G. Bedwell, Frederick Smith had left Captain Cassatt. J. Petz had left Grant Hugh Browne, Milton Lilley had left the Wickliffe Stable, and that two boys, O. Barrett and William Henry Lokey, had left the employ of James Rowe. A penalty of a 00 fine is provided by the Jockey Club rules for any horseman who may employ a former employee of another stable without a written discharge from that stable.
