The latter, after making a game elTort when going to the last jump, tired in the final drive. The colors of Lieut. J. K. L. He was a forward contender from the start, easily disposed of his opponents and was going away at the finish. Cadillac looks like a splendid Derby prospect for next year. He will go into winter quarters at the conclusion of the present meeting. Gloaming just did manage to stay long enough to beat Ting-a-Ling in the opening race by the narrowest of margins. Ting-a-Ling after being messed about in the early running finished fast. The race was a Selling Handicap and Gloaming was advanced from ,200 to ,905 at which figure ho was retained. H. G. Bedwell and J. AV. Hed-rick were responsible for the bidding. The latter also advanced Bonanza, winner of the fourth race, from to .,300. Bonanza was bought in. A benefit fund for the family of the late .Tames Burns is being raised by friends of the latter. The fund is in charge of Frank J. Bryan, one of the stewards at Pimlico. and subscriptions may be forwarded to him. Mr. Burns had a host of friends on the turf and was well liked. F. S. Von Stade was an arrival at Pimlico this morning. He came to attend a meeting of the stewards of the National Steeplechase and Hunt Association, which was held in the clubhouse at limlico thin-afternoon. II. AV. Sage of Albany, X. Y., was also a visitor for the first time during the meeting. Mr. Sage is anxious to purchase material suitable for steeplechasers and appears more interested than ever in cross-country sport. AV. B. Coe and a party of friends came on to see his promising steeplechaser. Bet, race in the Elkridge Steeplechase this afternoon. The following ruling was issued by the stewards before the races began this afternoon: "In the matter of the investigation of Beverly Bryants riding of Expectation in the steeplechase of November 2, it appears that the instructions given Bryant not to go out and race with AVcldship until after crossing the Penultimate obstacle were justifiable, under the circumstances. It was Bryants duty to follow such instructions to the best of his ability. It is not denied that he did so. Bryants suspension is therefore lifted." Two claims were put in for the two-year-old Tyrant, after he was beaten yesterday, by Sam Louis and II. G. Bedwell and, in the drawing, the latter secured the horse.
