SYNDICATE BETTING- TO GO PARI-MUTUELS TO SUPPLANT BOOKS AT SEVERAL MONTREAL TRACKS. Expectation Is That Mechanical Method of Betting Will Be Employed During Next Year at Mt. Royal and Belorimier Park. Montreal, Que., November 9. Next year is likely to see some racing changes hereabouts, more particularly in the mode of betting, for some of the tracks will replace the syndicate ring with pari-niutuel machines. Mount Royal Park, the nourishing local independent mile plant, and Delorimier Park, most pretentious of the local half-milers. will take tliis course. King Edward Park, which had only one week of racing this year, tried mu-tuels and books combined, but this was obviously doomed to failure before it started, from the linan-cial standpoint of the track. The island track will be under new management next year, H. D. Brown and Charles Campeau, being already mentioned in connection with the positions, and the mutuels may be put on at the island next summer. Mutuel betting became more popular than over in Montreal this year, Dorval in particular having heavy betting at its second meeting, and all the local tracks of any consequence will probably have the "iron men" operating next year. There is also some question as to who will act as manager of the Dorval race course next year. It develops that the arrangements made by the club with Capt. Presgrave was for one season only, and this has not as yet been renewed. Then? is little reason, however, to doubt that the position will at least be offered to Capt. Presgrave. Under his management last fall the track had its first real financial success, and there is every likelihood that he will again be tendered the management.
