TIIOllMIILL WINS FEATURE AUTUMN PURSE AT BOWIE EASILY CAPTURED BY THE FAVORITE. Hopeful Purse for Two -Year-Olds Proves Easy for Dandy Dude Horses Destroyed in Fire Died of Suffocation. Bowie, Mil., November 22. An ordinary band of horses took part in the seven races that made up tin; program at the Bowie track this afternoon. Still they furnished an interesting day for the big crowd that made the trip to the track. There was really no feature on the card, although the Autumn Purse for all ages at one mile took the place as the star number of the day. and it attracted a field of six to the post, with Thornhill the choice and Hops next in demand. Those close up to Thornhill were lucky ones, as he was returned an easy winner of the race, was well up all through, and at the last eighth took command and drew out, while the place position was taken by Pesky, with 1olroma taking the short end, The Hopeful Purse, for two-year-olds over the five and a half furlongs route, proved an easy thing for the odds-ou favorite, Dandy Dude. Bur-lingame kept him in a good position while Bu-chauan Brady set the pace to the stretch, then sent him to the front, and Dandy Dude drew out to win easily by two lengths. Buchanan Brady finished in second place, the same margin before Cherry Ripe. Trainer Ed Garrison, who lost Running Shot, Bootles Baby and Chelsea in the fire yesterday, announced today that Running Shot had been insured for ,500. Harrison was the authority for the statement that most of the horses burned in the fire yesterday died from suffication, as the smoke was dense lor a considerable length of time before the flames could be seen. Joseph A. Murphy received word today from Terry Carroll, trainer of the horses of AA It. Coe, asking him to reserve fourteen stalls for Coe this winter, as the latter intends to race this number of horses at the Crescent City track. Among those ii: the string is the good filly .Tacoba. .lames Reagan of the Knickerbocker Hotel. New York. Senator William Hughes of New Jersey, Charles Lanstlalc and Sam Louis of New York, were riming the arrivals today. A. t!. AVeston, the well-known trainer, has departed for New Orleans with a string of horses which lie will race at the Fair Grounds next winter. Among those in his care are several from the stables of R. T. AAilson, T. K. lresgrave and Thomas Clyde. Although reports had it that jockey Koppleman, who was thrown in :i race a few days ago, had received a fractured skull and was otherwise seriously injured, word was received from the hospital today that such is not the case and that he will be able to be about in a few days. Eddie Ambrose, who was slightly injured in the same race, is about and he announced that he is through with riding for the season. He will go to his home in Memphis, Tenn., and rest up during the winter months. George Odom will go into winter quarters with only one horse, Marse Henry. He will be shipped to Gravesend at the close of the present meeting and trainer Odom will open a public stable. He already has others in view and will probably come to the races next year with a good string. Starter James Milton was on hand in the interest of the racing at Havana, and two specials will leave for the accommodation of the horsemen who contemplate racing at Oriental Park. AV. L.
