JUAREZ KACfflG FOBMFUL . HONDO WINS HIS RACE IN THE MANNER OF A GOOD RACER. Certain Point an Easy Winner Milton Roblee Regains His Speed Quickly and Runs a Fast Race Ralph S, a Failure. El Paso, Texas. December 22. W. E. Applegates two-year-old black gelding Hondo, by Plaudit Blue Jacket, made his first start of the winter meeting at the Juarez track this afternoon in the second race, at five and one-half furlongs, and, quiekly opening up a big lead, maintained it throughout and was only cantering at the finish. Inasmuch as he had been working well, he was made a favorite in the betting, and never gave his supporters any worry, winning by a half dozen lengths, with Miss Tipperary in second place by a lengths advantage over F. C. Cole. This race indicates that Hondo will make it interesting for all the other sprinters at the Juarez track. Certain Point was in almost as soft a spot in the opening race, which was for maidens, with Kay Spences three-year-old, son of Abe Frank a 1 to 2 favorite over his opponents. Certain Point went into the lead at his riders leisure and came home with lengths of daylight between him and Major Bell. The latter, by cutting in close to the rail on the stretch turn, beat out Salvado Queen, which was making her first start at the meeting. Lucky in the first two races, the speculators got a jolt In the third, when Milton Roblee showed a marked improvement over his last race by defeating a fair band of platers, with long odds quoted against his chances in the mutuels. Josefina Za-rate and Peter Grimm went out and ran each other into exhaustion, after which Milton Roblee moved forward and Avon easily. There was the tightest fit imaginable at the finishing line among the next three horses, Peter Grimm, Josefina Zarate and Violet finishing in that order. Ralph S., which beat Milton Roblee many lengths at the same distance at their last meeting, was dull of speed today. With Bermudian scratched out of the fourth race. Charity Ward was made the favorite in the mutuels, but showed little speed. The winner turned up in B. Monahans old gelding, Clint Tucker. The latter was in the middle of the bunch until approaching the lower turn, where he moved up fast and, as Tempy Duncan began to tire in the stretch, he overhauled her and won going away by two lengths. At one time Tempy Duncan had a lead of a half dozen lengths, but she barely lasted long enough to beat the fast coming Helen Thompson. Marjorle D., was bid up from 00 to 25 by James Shilling and protected by K. Spence, who iu turn claimed Ilastena for 25.
