MOSCOWA A GOOD STAYER TAKES THE MARTIN BEHRMAN HANDICAP AT TWO MILES IN EASY FASHION. J. J. Murdock Victor in the Mile Handicap — Only Two Favorites Successful — Card of Eight Races Today. New Orleans. La.. February 19. — .1. 0. Koenes Moscowa demonstrated his ability over a long route by winning th- Martin Rehrman Handicap at two mile;, worth 81,080 act to the winner. Thanksgiving landed in sec 1 place, a la-ad better than ktealO Park. Moscowa was an overwhelming favorite, and under the superb ride that Crump gave him. won in hollow style. In addition to the pane. Mayor Rehrman. for whom the race was named, pre-SCated to the winner a handsome silver cup. The citys chief official viewed the race from the judges stand with Col. J. P. Sullivan. The seasons record crowd was at the track this afternon and the racing was in keeping with conditions, close finishes being the rule all the afternoon. The crowd in the Palm Garden was so dense as to make a trip through it a hardship. Becnase of the ccngistion. the betting slumped considerably, for it stagnated action and the layers were unable to accommodate the woald-he backers. ktoaeowa and J. J. Murdock, the latter winner in the mile handicap, were the only successful i lioi«: s during the afternoon. The overthrow of choices began in the opener, when the locally -owned Reilloe bounded home in the juvenile sprint with Shade and Water Wave following. St. Theresa and Notate were the favorites. Brisz Upsets Calculations. Chemung was a supposed good thing in the second. He failed to get a place. El Hey. Rannockburn and Rhymer fighting it out. P.rizz upset calculations in the third by beating the well intended Jainer. with The afaaajnemdn and Korfhage. the favorites well back. Whirling Dun was backed with rare confidence in the sixth race, but he was never in the running. Warsaw winning from Diamond with Opportunity heading the others. The concluding race brought a heart-breaking finish, with Manns getting up iu the last stride to win from Tactless, with King K. following. The bereea of ;. w. J. BlsaiB and J. T. Looney will be shipped to Lexington tonight. Jockey Mack Carner will be here from his home. Centerville. Iowa, to ride McAdoo in the Crescent City Handicap tomorrow. C. The first botch of departures tomorrow will include numerous ones who intend to take part in the Hot Springs racing. Some of the New York d.lcgation will go oa to New York, for a brief stay, before returning to Hot Springs. The closing days program is of eight races, with the Crescent City Handicap the stellar otlei-iag. There were 120 horses named in the eight races, which constitutes a record for the aaaaher of starters posted for one day on any winter track.
