RAPID SPREAD OF THE TURF IN SPAIN. Valuable Stake Races Founded at Several of tho New Courses. The sum of 1917.sh0,000 is offered in connection xvith the Madrid spring meeting. In all there xvill be ten days racing during the meeting, on Sundav. May 20. 27. June 3. 10, 17. 24. and July 1 and on Thursday. June 14. LT and 28. There are three international races in each days program, which range in value from .IM0 the Prix Alpha**** NIL. of one mil" and half, on June 2-1, down to humble selling races of $." 00. The Marquis de la Mina has licen elected president of the Spanish Jockey Club iu succession to the Duke of Tamames. The French code has been adopted by that body xvith the following variations: "Handicaps are to be allowed over a minimum distance of three-quarters; handicaps for two-year-olds are not to be prohibited; tl arliest date xvhen two-year-olds may run for races of 00 or under is to lie after May IB, or on or after July 1 for more important events; geldings to be excluded from ,ill races except selling. "Le Sport Beige" announces that the king of Spain has authorized M. A. de Neuter to construct a racecourse at Aranjuez in order that a royal meeting after the pattern of Ascot may be held then- in the month of May. There is to be racing in Spain this rear at Seville. Barcelona. Madrid and San Sebastien. and also, perhaps at Sintaiider. At the last-named place, which hitherto has been chiefly associated with polo, a new racecourse is to be established, and five prizes of S10. KM each xvill be offered there in August on the Sundays left vacant by the meeting at San Sebastien.
