EASTERN HORSES UNREADY INCLEMENT WEATHER SOURCE OF WORRY TO TRAINERS WITH BOWIE OPENING NEAR. Condition of the Horses No Mora Advanced Than Was the Case at the Corresponding Time Last Year. New York. March 8. — The severe storm that has prevailed tin- past few days in this district lias ■gala put all thought of outside work for horses on the local traeks out of the qaesttsa. Trainers are becoming anxious about the condition of their charges. It is predicted that few will lie really -. fit for the opening of the season at Howie. Last year the real work of training did not begin until the middle of .March, and it inmle horses late iu getting to form. Many of them were not fully prepared for tin- Pballea opening, which did not occur until May. "■very day counts from now on," said one of the Belmont Park colony of trainers. "Inless there is a moderation in the weather pretty nana all the horses a.t I.t -lniont. will be as backward as they were last year, notwithstanding the exeeUeat quarters provided fir them in the way of covered traeks ami their daily exercises. Of course, the stake horses will not suffer as much as the cheaper CUSS, as th" latter c..n be given more strenuous work. Hut the harsps that wintered here will not be nearly as fit as those stabled in Washington and Maryland, where they have had a Chance to do a little something through th" winter. It is almost a sure thing that most of tie- winners at Bowie will come from around Washington and tin-winter traeks. There will be few. if any, from this neighborhood ready for Howie. It is safe to say that eastern horses will not cut much figure at Havre de irace."
