CALIFORNIA TURFMEN STILL HOPEFUL. C. W. Clark Says That Efforts to Secure Favorable Legislation Have Not Been Abandoned. San Francis.-o. Cal.. March 8.— Charles W. Clark, president of the Golden Gate Thoroughbred Breeders Association, is back from a visit to New Orleans, with an annoiii:eement that all hope has not been abandoned yet in getting through some fan r-able legislation at Sacramento that will revive thau sport of racing in California and stimulate intero-Tyf in horse breeding. The proposed State Badng Commission and pari-mutuel bill has been sent to all the senators anl assemblymen so that they can get acquainted with the movement that was under way. "Our aims to build up the breeding industry were grossly misrepresented and we thought lest to present our bill to fhe lawmakers, whether we decide to introduce it or not." explains President Clark. "We also submitted the letter from tin-governor of Kentucky to our association, which stated that during the eight years the State Racing Commission and pari-mutuels have been in force in the blue grass region, there has not been a single complaint or protest. "In view of the unsettled condition of this country re dative to the European war, we further believe that the breeding of thoroughbred horses to improve the remount type for our cavalry should be encouraged. The only means in which to provide an incentive for the breeding of valuable and blue-blooded horses is racing and that is the reason we are trying to revive the sport. Other states have made the move with much success and California, that was once the rival of Kentucky as the home of great horses, should not lag behind. If the matter is presented to the legislators in the true- light, we are confident our bill will be passed and signed." George Wingfield has returned from an extended visit to Tijuana. He reports that the sport is booming at the Southern California course. Tin-Nevada turf patron was pleased with the good form shown by his thoroughbreds and is making arrangements to campaign a string of fifteen head on, the eastern tracks next summer.
