BIG CONSIGNMENT FROM MARYLAND. Pledge Support of 203 Horses for Devonshire Parks, Opening Meeting on Kay 12. Detroit. Mich.. April 24. — Up to date, horsemen that have been operating in Maryland this spring have pledged the support of exactly 203 horses for Devonshires opening meeting, this information having been furnished by the American ■apeasa Company, with whom the eastern contingent made arrangements for transportation. With the twenty or more bead due to arrive soon from Hot Springs and a consignment from Tijuana. General Manager Frank Sullivans prediction that there would be plenty of material with which to fill the fields is destined to materialize. tnder the existing conditions track superintendent Fred Miller is putting on the finishing touches to the turf. Ky Saturday, it is said from the associations offices, the track will be ready for hard galloping if trainers want to avail themselves, of the opportunity to test the footing. Nothing aiucli is being done to the structure, all of the f. Vet ing time, by choice of Manager Sullivan, being spent in putting the track in the best of condition. NoIkmI.v would bo justified in going into raptures over the surrounding scenery, but the ground out of which the course was hewed is ia a class by itself. Careful treatment of the quarter mile front stretch the past week removed the last vestige of the recent winters wrath and it will be ready at a moments notice. Of the horsemen coming from Havre de ir.ieo. H. G. Bedwell leads in the point of numbers, the westerner sponsoring twenty, for which he requests twenty-three stalls. G. Phillips and J. M.
