DIADEM A THOUSAND GUINEAS WINNER. The One Thousand Cuim-as. for three year old fillies, was run at Newmarket last Friday and was won by I.ord ft* fib 1 1 Bens fine filly Diadem, by Orby Doiineta. Frank Kicknhly rode her and she won by a half length from W. Astm-s Si y .Line, a daughter of Sun Star- Maid of the Mist and. so, a granddaughter of the famous mare Sceptre. Lord Falmouths Nonpareil, by Radium Quintessence was third. Fourteen fillies ran. with Diadem the favorite at :. to L The other two placed were at 25 to 1 each. It thus fell to Major Waldorf Astor to run second in bath of the two Classics of the Newmarket First Spring Meeting, his good colt Magpie finishing second in the Two Thousand Gnaneas last Wednesday. The meeting closed the flat -racing season in F.iiglaud ami Ireland for tin-year. This means the abamlomeut of ten meetings in F.nglaiiil. all of which were scheduled for Newmarket. The Irish meetings, though less important, were more numerous.
