MORE NOTES OF DERBY PREPARATION. Ricketys Way of Moving Pleases Critics — Ticket Returns from Lexington — Horses Work Fast. Louisville. Ky.. May 9. — For the first time since he set foot on Kentucky soil. Harry Payne Whitneys Kentucky Derby eligible Rickety, was this morning at Churchill Pinna given his first workout and his showing created a favorable impression among the onlookers, who were out to watch the many trials that took place over a fast track. The son of P.roomstick -Queen of Hearts was jogged several times around the track and then sent fast for a half mile, which he covered in 49. Jockey Buxton was in the saddle and he afterwards declared that he had considerable trouble in keeping the colt under restraint. Tomorrow morning trainer Rowe contemplates sending UK colt the full Derby route in fast time. Rickety is a splendid looking chestnut, considerably under sixteen hands, big buned and muscular and appears to be an animal of Brack substance and abundant speed. Trainer Rowe declared that prior to coming here the colt had keen sent along in good style in his pecan "at ion and that he had done everything asked of hi;n. He also stated that the colt would be ready for next Saturdays contest. Earlier in the season Rowe hail picked out Bellringer as the most likely one of the Whitney eligibles to carry the stables standard in the Derby, but he changed his mind and selected Rickety when that star commenced to display such good qualities in his early preparation. F. Robinson, who will have the mount on Kickety in the Derby, is due to arrive Friday morning from the east. The best Derby trial from a time Standpoint was shown by Guy Fortune in the stable of Middleton and .Tones, which trainer Dan Lehan allowed to gallop three quarters in 1:13"-.. much the best showing at the distance at the DnM this spring. Guy Fortune was accompanied by Gallant Lad. a stable mate, the pair racing close together to the stretch, where Guy Fortune easily drew away from the other. .Messrs. Middleton and Jones were on hand to witness the work and were much elated. They both united in stating that Gay Fortune would surely start in the Derby with Connolly up. Maniiter Tois Work Pleases Emil Herz. Acabado. from the WicklitYo stable and Manister Tat, belonging to Emil Herz. were each sent a mile and a quarter, the former covering the distance in 2:18% and the latter in a shade slower time. Manister Toi was paced by three members of the Herz stable at different stages of the gallon. His work appears to please owner Ben, who watched the rail from the center field. John Wkalen was also satisfied with the manner in which Acabado had accomplished his task and Stated that if nothing Bn toward happened, the son of Superman would sport silks Saturday, guided by Andy BehnttJnger. Other feed moves at the Downs comprised the following : Itoamer. mile in 1:42, kicked out in the final eighth: Old Roneknd, mile and an eighth in 1:53%; Hedge, three -quarters in 1:17: Swan Song and Feliciiad. three-quarters in 1:11: Passing Fancy and Peetle Bttg, three-miariers in 1:M; Duchess of Liswell. mile in 1:41%. All of the Macomber two year olds were worked at distances varying from a half mile to five eighths in good time. Spirit of France and War God showed the best, the pair working together a half mile in IV-.-.. Andrew Millers Ticket, winner of the Derby Trial at Lexington, returned to the Downs tliis morning looking none the worse for his hard race of Tuesday. The colt will be given his final workout Tknrsnay morning, when he will be sent for a fast mile and a quarter. President Charles F. Grainger and General Man ager Matt J. Winn of the New Louisvill" Jockey Club, went over to Lexington this morning on business in connection with the forthcoming Downs meet ing. Col. Andrew Vennle, a large stockholder in the Downs track, arrived from New York today to remain for the meeting.
