AQUEDUCT MEETING ENDS. J. J. LILLIS DEFEATS PADDY WHACK NARROWLY IN THE MYRTLE SELLING STAKES. Shannon River Adds to His Good, Account of Steeplechases Won Ed Cudihce Shows the Tijuana Horses Can Win Elsewhere. New York, July 12. Favored by the soft going and with a slight pull in the weights, the Marrone Stables J. J. Lillis came back with another winning performance in the Myrtle Stakes, the carded feature of the final days racing over the Aqueduct track. The Marrone plater made the running for the entire way, but was forced to give his best at the end to win by the proverbial whisker from James Butlers Paddy AVhaek. Kilmer, the only other starter, was well beaten. J. J. Lillis raced to the front at the barriers rise, set a fast early pace and. when rounding the turn, raced into a long lead. All this time Paddy AVliack had been going along steadily in second place, except for a brief period when Kilmer sprinted into that position. Once straightened away for home he moved up menacingly, but wore the pacemaker down so slowly that he did not get his nose in front until a few yards beyond the finish. J. J. Lillis early efforts told and lie tired badly right at the end. The race was run in 1:40, which, considering track conditions, was good Shannon River scored his fourth victory in his last five starts when he outraced a fair band of fencers in the cross-country race. This race was the last steeplechase of the month to be decided in this country. Sharing interest with the selling stake feature and attracting a far better field, was the three-quarters handicap, framed for non-winners of the meeting, which fell to Mrs. G. H. Brownes recent purchase Ed Cudihce. The winner, showing great speed in the going, set out to force the running, with Marie Miller and, after racing that filly to defeat, came on to win ridden out. Rhine Maiden, closing up with a rusli through the stretch, out-gamed Brooks for second place. Yankee AVitch, one of the best fillies of last year, quit after showing a flash of speed Omar Khayyam Shipped to Saratoga. Fred Viaus crack three-year-old Omar Khayyam, winner of the Kentucky and Brooklyn Derbys, will be shipped to Saratoga Springs tomorrow along with several members of the It. F, Carman string. The others of the stable will campaign at the Empire City track. H. Fink bid up Comsora, winner of the first race, from 00 to ,300 and obtained the C. H. Thieriot filly at that price. AV. Knapp, who has been riding in excellent fashion since Ills retuni to the saddle, has signed a contract to ride the horses trained by AVm. Karrick. Condition books for the five day meeting of the Staten Island Agricultural Society, were issued today and show purse values of no less than 50. This will be the only track in the United States and Canada, aside from Saratoga, running from August 1 to 6 and Racing Secretary L. A. Cassidy has been besieged for stable room. The T. P. Thome racers will be shipped from Belmont Park to Saratoga tomorrow, while the O. O. AVinfrey stable will journey to the Spa on Tuesday.
