PREPARE FOR RACING AT TIJUANA. Manager James CofiFroth Announces Plans for Meeting to Open on Thanksgiving Day. San Diego, Cal., July 12. That Jijuana will have i far more prosperous and higher class race meeting; this year than that of last winter is conceded by horsemen and all those who have any means of sizing up the situation in the far west. Manager James Coffroth realizes that the more stability is attached to racing, the greater and more pronounced, the interest. It is on these lines that he is build-" ing the foundation of the Tijuana institution. A few days ago Mr. Coffroth gave out some of his plans for the coming winter season. "In the first place," said he, "I think our opening will be on Thanksgiving Day and we shall continue racing until well into the spring season. The number of days has not as yet been decided upon. That we shall have a greatly increased number of horses to fill races is practically assured, as I have already received applications for stalls from horsemen who feel that accommodations would be limited for the coming winter. They, of course, did not know of my improved plans whereby there will be plenty of room for all. "Last year we had 720 horses in the stables and we then had 1,050 stalls. I know these will not be sufficient this year, so I am erecting 450 more stalls, which will give us room for at least 1,500 horses. Should it be necessary it will not take long to fix up npre stable room. Increase Promised in Stakes and Purses. "As for the purses and stakes, I intend to increase the value of both as much as possible," continued Mr. Coffroth. "I shall make them rich enough to be an iicentive for owners of all the prominent stables in this country to consider a trip to Tijuana worth while. It is early to declare the exact amounts to be hung up, but the question will be settled by the time I arrive in the east, which will be in August. "Tijuana is solidly established now and I know just about what I can expend in prize money. Horsemen who have ever raced in California are only too willing to return, and there is no doubt in my mind that Tijuana will be popular with horsemen and racegoers as was Los Angeles and San Francisco for winter racing. There is no better climate than that which prevails around San Diego. There is only one spot that can be compared with it, and that is Nice, France. One only has to look at the thermometer reports to learn the article dealt out in the weather line in Lower California. I shall use every effort to get the best of the present-day racers at Tijuana next winter. "One of the principal moves I have made, however, will interest horsemen considerably, it is on the question of feed for the horses. The impression prevails that the cost of feed in California is exhorbitant. Such is not the case, but to insure fair treatment and assist horsemen in the matter, I am busy piling up hundreds of tons of hay and tons upon tons of the best oats in the market, which I propose to dispose of to the horsemen at cost price. I am not going to run a gigantic feed store for profit, but will sell at exactly what the material cost. I am making these preparations so that horsemen will know just where they stand in the feeding line when they come to Tijuana."
