James Rutler furnished his second feature Avinner in as many days, when his three-year-old filly AAistful Aas returned a Aictress in the Brentwood Handicap, an overnight dash, at one mile, which AAas offered as the stellar race of an off day program. Gyily three ran in this race and the Butler miss at all times ruled, a AAell supported choice. For one brief moment during the Aait at the post, her chances seemed to go glimmering AAhen she was kicked by DuQt-tiste, but she manifested no traces of any injury during the race and came back to the- scales apparently all right. Holiday, favored by his pull in the weights, forced a brisk early pace, but tired when put to the final drive and succumbed in the final eighth. Duettiste, the only other starter, Avas never dangerous. Aside from the Brentwood, there AAas little .of importance to the afternoons sport, though a fair band of two-year-olds appeared in the closing race. The victory of Starfinch in the fifth race, in Avhich he ruled an overwhelming favorite, brought about the biggest runup of the afternoon, Avhen he AAas bid up from to ,000 by AV. Travers. Purchase of Aqueduct Track Hangs Fire. The purchase of the Aqueduct track" by Joseph Widener and A. K. Macomber is still under consideration. An offer of 25 a share for the controlling stock has been made and 75 asked .by those Iioav in control. There must be a compromise. If the track should be sold, the most extensive alterations AA-ill be made. It is also probable that dividends of six per cent only will be paid, the remainder of the profits, if any, to go to im-proA-ements, stakes and purses. AAr. II. Pearce claimed Sam McMeekin before the first race, AAhich caused his AvithdraAval. The price paid AAas ,918.33, McMeekins entered price was ,000.
