ST. LOUIS SPORT AT ITS HEIGHT Summer Weather Brings Out Another Big Crowd Close Finishes Hark Racing. St. Louis, Mo., September 4. Maxwelton Park is at the height of its glory. Real summer weather brought out 4,000 racing enthusiasts to witness six overnight races, which furnished close finishes. The opening race went to II. Neusteters filly Oriental Girl, which took the lead at the start -and Avon all the way. The fourth race, a claiming affair at a mile and fifty yards, brought the defeat of a well-supported choice in Dr. Prather, which set the early pace, but quit in the stretch drive. Irregular, the second choice, made up much ground. The fifth race furnished a thrilling finish through the last twenty yards. Chilton King, the pacemaker, withstood all challenges and managed to last long enough. The mare Fleuron II. was sent after the leader, but Stearns lost ground with her on the stretch turn, which accounted for her narrow defeat. The last race furnished a good contest, the consistent mare Athletic Girl repeating her victory of last week, when she broke from the maiden class by defeating some shifty platers.
