CHURCHILL DOWNS FALL STAKE RACES Nominations to the Tails City Handicap and St. Xeger Handicap Old Rosebud Named. By C. A. Bergin. Louisville, Ky., September 4. Col. M. J. Winn, general manager of Churchill Downs, today announced the dates for the running of the foiir stakes at the autumn meeting, which opens October 4, and continues for a period of seven days. The Falls City Handicap will be the opening days attraction, while the Golden Rod Stakes, for two-year-olds, will be decided October i. Two days later the Cherokee Stakes Will have its annual renewal, and on the closing day the St. Leger Handicap, at two miles and a quarter, will supply the chief attraction. . Coincidental! Avith Colonel Winns announcement. Secretary II. C. Applegate made public the list of nominations to both the St. Leger and Falls City Handicaps, the meetings two principal fixtures. The first-named attracted nineteen, while the latter stake has twenty-eight entries. Roth are splendid lists, and comprise the pick of the sprinting and long-distance performers in this state. Among the Falls City entries are found Fruit Cake, the speedy three-year-old filly that A. K. Macomber recently acquired from E. T. Zollicoffcr, and Avhich will be making her firs.t appearance on a Kentucky track; Kathleen, Avinner of the stake last year in the popular colors of George J. Long, and which was recently sold by that gentleman; Harry Kelly, Cudgel, Butterscotch II., Hodge, Pan Za-reta, MidAvay, Blind Baggage and Vogue. The St. Leger list includes such good ones as Embroidery, Avhich Avon the stake last year for A. B. Hancock; Rancher. Old Rosebud, Black Toney, reta, MidAay, Blind Baggage and, Yogue.
