FINE WEANLINGS AT HANCOCKS FARM Seven By Wrack Excites Especial Commendation By Their Taking Appearance. By T. B. Cromwell. Lexington, Ky., September 5. Two of the best-looking weanlings by any sire now on pasture in the Blue Grass state are the chestnut sons of Celt, dam Sallie Washington, by Eon, and Votes, by Voter, respectively, at Arthur B. Hancocks Claiborne Farm in Bourbon county, near Paris, where the writer saw them a few days ago. The first mentioned is bred like the good mare Embroidery. He is a slashing looking fellow with wonderfully strong quarters and splendid loins. He is symetrically formed and is straight-legged and substantial looking. The other is quite smart and may prove a freak for speed. He is an in-bred Commando and is owned by the Belair Stud. At Claiborne also is the English stallion Wrack and seven of his first crop of foals in this country. Judging by this sample, the son of Robert Le Diablo Samphire, by Isinglass, is going to prove a splendid breeder on this side of the Atlantic. The bodily best of the young Wracks is the brown colt, dam Lady Autocracy, by Rainbow, but the one that looks most likely to be a thoroughbred stayer is the bay colt, dam Single Shot, by Star Shoot. Of him T. P. Hayes commented: "That one may win a Derby." Another by Wrack that is every inch a thoroughbred is the bay filly, dam Gold sister to Jim Gaffney. And this brings to mind that O. A. Bianchi, has Jim Gaffney galloping regularly every day at the Kentucky Association course. "I want the old fellow to not forget that they are still racing in this country and I want him to have an interest in life," says his practical owner. HOPE TO PRODUCE GOOD STEEPLECHASERS. J. Temple Gwatlimey, one of Mr. Hancocks Virginia friends, has five mares at Claiborne all mated this year with Wrack, witli a view to producing superior steeplechasers, for these mares were all good over the jumps and Wrack himself was a winner over the hurdles as well as on the flat of some 0,000. They are Ansonelle, Bryndown, Robinetta, Censure and Humility, and each has a foal at foot by Seahorse II., Humilitys being the only filly in the quintet. Each of the five will make a big horse, but there is nothing attractive about any of them, unless it is their size. The W.elkin, owned by J. II. Wheelwright of Baltimore and the best steeplechase mare of her time, has a bay filly by Ben Brush and has been mated witli Wrack. A good-looking chestnut colt by Celt is owned by Samuel Ross of Washington and is a son of Lady Isabel, by Holstein. There is an orphan among the weanlings, the bay filly by Ben Trovato Floral Day dam of Green Jones, the mare having died in foaling. It has -been well raised from the caretakers haijd.
