BELMONT PARK TRACK NEVER HEAVY As the construction of tracks has much to do with the result of races, those who figure closely will do well to remember that the Belmont Park course never gets heavy. That is as heavy as some tracks. This is due to its being built on sandstone. No matter how much rain falls, there is practically a solid bottom to the going at all times. It can be termed a muddy or sloppy track, but never heavy. An illustration of this can be taken from the time of the races last Saturday when the track was a sea of slush. A cheap horse like Deckmate ran three-quarters in 1:13, and Fizer ran a mile and an eighth in 1:52. Sam McMeekin, twenty minutes later, ran a mile and won under restraint in 1:39. Belmont Park is a fast track always in dry weather and is correspondingly fast no matter how much rain falls. It is probably the only track in existence that is as safe and as fast after rain as in fair weather.
