LEXINGTON BECOMING A LIVELY PLACE Arrivals of Owners and Horses from Saratoga, Louisville and St. - Louis, By T. B. Cromwell". Lexington, Ky., September 7. The good two-year-old brown filly Plevna, by Ben Brush Proud Daisy, owned by Johnson N. Camden and trained by-J. C. Milam, died here this morning as the result of a fever contracted en route from Saratoga. Plevna won two of her five races, and was second in another. She was intended to be kept for breeding purposes in the Hnrtla,nd Stud of her owner, where she was foaled. This is the third two-year-old to die here within a month from the same cause, the others being Jessie Ormsby, winner of two races in six starts and Mehaffey, winner of one out of five races and both members of the Gallaher Brothers string. The stables of T. C. McDowell, Howard Oots, II. II. Hewitt and William Harley from Saratoga; Zeke Arnold from Louisville and the horses J. W. Fuller, George Innes, Lee Dickerson and Joe Tevis had at St. Louis, reached the track today: All are reported to have shipped in good condition. In the McDowell string were Olive Wood, Plum, American Eagle, Manager Waite, America, Con-testa, Protection, Masterpiece and Precious. Howard Oots brought Barney Shannon, Aristobulus, The Gadder, Parr, Raider, Biennann and four others. .In the Hewitt string, in charge of John I. Smith, were Skeptic, Pan Maid, Star Maid, Avis, Meditation, Herald and others. T. C. McDowell, who arrived last night, was at the track when his string came in. Grover Baker was another arrival from the east. VIVA AMERICA MUD RUNNER. The track was muddy today, but for all that Viva America gave work watchers some astonishment when she ran through it three-eighths in 36, every eighth in 12. "If it should be muddy September 22," said Mickey Shannon, "C. T. Worth-ington certainly will get the big end of the division of the Breeders Futurity."
