HAVRE DE GRACE MEETING PROSPERING Onico Beaten by Indian Arrow Assume Wins in a Canter Gossip of the Track. Havre de Grace, Md., September 12. Weather conditions continued exquisite for the racing at the Havre de Grace course this afternoon and, coupled with a well arranged program for the second day of tlie fall meeting, attracted an, excellent midweek throng to the Harford County track. While there was little of good class among the contestants, the fields were evenly matched and the majority of the races furnished exciting contests. A good band of two-year-olds started In the third race, an event which brought about the downfall of J. M. Zimmers speedy filly Onico, a strongly supported public choice. This miss was making her first appearance since the spring meeting at Jamaica and showed a smart performance, only succumbing to Grant Hugh Brownes African Arrow in the final strides. The Zimmer filly raced as if best, however. Away somewhat slowly, she was quickly rushed to the front and too much used in setting a fast pace. The race should fit her for better tilings. G. A. Marshalls recent purchnse Assume displayed a speedy effort in the maiden race, racing the five and a half furlongs. In 1:00, to win pulled up from Emden, a heavily backed "good tiling." George Odom reports the Brighton Stables star St. Isidore, which sported silk in .the Old,. Bay Handicap yesterday, cauie out of that race with a badly bruised foot. The. injury had improved a little today, but iis extremely doubtful if he will face the starter before the Laurel meeting. Before the races this afternoon, Richard Carman brought out Wilfred Viaus, good threfii3ear-old Omar Khayyam and sent him, a mile and a quarter the reverse way of the races, his final preparation for the Realization. A good-sized exercise boy was up and he carried 120 pounds. The fractional time was 13. 25. 38, 51, 1:03, 1:10. 1:29, 1:42, 1:50, 2:0S. Arrangement1? were made to ship the horse to Belmont Park this afternoon. Another Canadian owner arrived this afternoon, when Sol Mintz got in with his stable from Hamilton. He reports that several more owners will be here as soon as they are able to secure cars. James OHara, who was a visitor at Havre de Grace yesterday, instructed Joseph McLennan to compile conditions for six stakes for the fall meeting at Bowie. Each of these events will have ,000 added. Four claims were put in for Assume after his victory iu the fourth race and he was awarded to J. O. Burttscliell for ,130. The other claimants were J. W. Williams, W. R. Mizell and W. A. Carter.
