LEOCHARES STILL A STAR * Carries High Weight and Wins Easily in Fast Time. 1 Freecutter Qualifies Handsomely in His First Race as a Three-Year-Old. • Louisville, Ky.. June 4. — Edward B. McLeans Iiopular veteran* Loochares. again demonstrated to the local racing public that, despite age. he still ranks in the first division of sprinters, by his impressive performance in winning the feature race, a handicap at three-quarters, for a purse of .HK . with the utmost east and covering the distance in 1:11. while carrying 13:1 pounds. His showing had additional merit in the fact that he was slowed to a little better than a canter in the last sixteenlh. when OBrien became thoroughly convinced that fce had the race won. Believe Me ISoys landed in second place and Kight Angle followed in third place. Loochares was conceding chunks of actual weight to the others and the early fast pace that Right Angle set in the early running caused Leoeh.-iros to be a follower, but once fully settled in his stride, he came with a terrific rush that took him by the leaders like a flash. In the last sixteenth Ollrion began easing him up and reduced his lead to two lengths at the end. The mile and seventy yards race, which shared interest with the feature, introduced Ceorge .1. Longs Freecutter as a three-year-old. Doubt as to his thorough fitness caused a lack of support for him. the eastern owned filly Quietude, which scored an impressive victory in her initial start in these parts last week. Ix-ing given the call. She flattered extensively by showing the way until well along in the stretch, where she was headed by Freecutter and a moment later by Hollinger. The latter pair fought it out in good style, with Freecufter the victor by a half length. Quietude quit uni-x-pectedly in the stretch and barely saved third place. The manner in which Freecutter won suggested that Jeorge J. Long has a splendid chance to win the Latcnia Derby for a third time. Freecutter is his chief defense this season, although he also nominated Ocean Sweep for the rae-e. Freccntters sire. Free I«ince. won the Latonia Derby for Mr. I.ong in 1!»12 and Sir Iluon carried his e-olors to victory in the 1!XM! running of the race. Freecutter distinguished himself at Latonia last year by winning the Cincinnati Trophy, in which race Escoba. one of his chief rivals for Derby honors on June SJ, was third.
