UNITED STATES HOTEL STAKES OF 10000 WHE BIG FEATURE OF TODAYS RACING AT SARATOGA Saratoga Springs N Y August 2 Saturday has always been the big racing day at Saratoga Ac ¬ cordingly the Saratoga Racing Association arranges Us program each year so that the richest and most important stake features are decided on the Sat ¬ urdays during the meeting For the first Saturdays racing of the present season the United States Hotel Stakes and the Keimer Stakes are the stake attractions The increase in value of the United States Hotel Stakes brought a recordbreaking list of nominations to that fixture and for its decision tomorrow a splendid field of highclass twoyearolds arc carded to start Billy Kelly the crack western twoyear old which scored in such easy fashion in the Flash Stakes yesterday is among the starters and will be accorded strong support tomorrow even though opposed by such speedy eastern twoyearolds as Elfin Queen Eternal Terentia High Time and others Those who witnessed Billy Kellys per ¬ formance in the Flash Stakes were impressed with the wonderful speed displayed by the western colt and many are of the opinion that but few of the eastern youngsters will be able to stay with him himII II K Knapps peerless filly Elfin Queen will not lack admirers her brilliant victories over the metro ¬ politan tracks having gained for her a large follow Only five have been named overnight to start in the Keimer Stakes the secondary feature of the program a dash of one and threesixteenth miles for thr eyearolds Of those named John San fords ZTippity Witchct will be an overwhelming favorite This brilliant twoyearold of last year made his threeyearold debut at Empire City last Tuesday and showed that he was ready for the Saratoga cam ¬ paign by scoring an easy victory in fast time This groat little racer proved last year that he could carry heavy weight over a long distance and run fast enough to beat such speedy older opponents as Ed Cudihee Fenniouse Dorcas and others at a mile and 70 yards yardsExterminator Exterminator the Kentucky Derby winner of this year may offer serious contention but it is more ing who have not lost faith in her prowess despite her defeat by Terentia at Aqueduct AqueductTerentia Terentia is another filly that will be given care ¬ ful consideration as will the J W McClelland colt Eternal which has been working here in sensa ¬ tional style for the past week or so soP P A Olarks Diinboyne showed himself to be a speedy youngster at Aqueduet when he beat Eternal and High Time and is said to be in tiptop condition for the1 big race tomorrow He has started in three races winning two of them and finishing second in the other otherOnly Only one or two of the prospective starters have as yet gone threequarters of a mile the distance of this stake and that may cut an important fig ¬ ure in the result The prospects are for a grand race wayThe bitterly contested every inch of the way The United States Hotel Stakes was established in 1880 and its first winner was the great racer Luke Blackburn ridden by J Mclaughlin who established a record in this race by riding four of its winners three in succession Besides Luke Blackburn other noted horses to win this important Saratoga fixture included amon others Hindoo Drake Carter Inspector B Hanover Kinley Mack Burgomaster and Old Rosebud Last years victor was G W
