BEST TWOYEAROLDS IN ENGLAND In spite of the hard ground the sport was excel ¬ lent at the First July Meeting and special interest attached to the twoyearold racing Opinions vary as to which is the best and that being so it is safe to suggest that there has not yet been revealed a real champion though undoubtedly there are some good ones among them Paper Money a powerful colt was picked up cheap as a yearling and he acquitted himself well on his debut at the Craven Meeting but failed later to give eight pounds to Monte Faro Since then however he has done wonderfully well and the way in which he set his weight at defiance in the Plantation Plate caused many good judges to regard him as the best of his year yet seen Tom Cannon has few horses to train and is lucky that so smart a youngster is one of them for if he gws on all right he is likely to play a prominent part in the Derby Cannon in among the trainers who have been called up for military service and bis brother Morny who has hitherto been employed in munition work has also received his papers papersIt It may be that the class in Division 2 of the Plantation Plate was not good though the Misfit colt is a good sort and won so easily that Mr Mortimer Singer must have had sound reasons for his confidence last week when the colt was beaten by Dominion Touraine is a goodlooking and wellbred filly but I am afraid she has a will of her own and will not improve in that respect Three runners for tin July Stakes made a poor show and it was not a satisfactory race as each seemed chary of forcing the pace Buchan and Silver Spur evidently waiting on one another while up notice was taken of the outsider Starshot until the last hundred yards He then created a surprise by coming with such a well sustained run that ho only failed by a short head to catch Buchan but I do not think he will ever get as near to him again though this was i great improvement on his per ¬ formance bejiind Magic Prince Wilkin and Countess Burghley and no doubt he will pay his way Lord Roscbw has a fine twoyearold in the Signor inetta colt which confirmed his early promise by winning the Exeter Stakes from Bruff Bridge and Dominion and although the winner was receiving eight pounds I think the day will come when he viir beat them at vven weights as he shows plenty of room for improvement Vigilant In London Sportsman
