STAKE RACE TO AN AMERICAN HORSE In English war time racing few indeed are thu Americanbred horses participating but one crops up now and then particularly from the stable of L Winans He has made several attempts to win with the swift sprinter Vanitie this year But Vanitie has turned rogue and simply refuses to run a little bit although probably about as speedy as he was when John E Madden sent him over the big water to Mr Winans However another American won a desirable KICK for him at Newmarket July 3 when his Race Rock by Rock Sand Anna Rus ¬ sell won the Duke of Cambridge Handicap at a mile and n half in a hot finish in which five horses were lapped on each other as the winning line was crossed Raw Rock won by a half length in 237 with Rosmarin and Pnro deadheating for second place Kashmir and White Squall heini only two heads away The value 2185 was quite worth fighting for as racing goes in England now
