ANTIRACING FORCES GIVEN SETBACK Gov Harrington of Maryland Declares That He Sees No Reason for Stopping Sport Baltimore Md September 3 Socalled reformers who recently started another crusade against racing in Maryland have been given a severe setback by Gov Harrington Advocating that every person connected with the sport should l e taken into cus ¬ tody and put to work at some essential occupa ¬ tion leaders of the movement called upon the governor to express their views viewsI I havent said the governor the slightest objection to stating my position on the subject of racing I do not suppose that anyone even the men engaged in the business will contend that rac ¬ ing is an absolutely essential business Nevertheless I do feel that the people who have arranged the meetings about to begin should be given reasonable notice before being put out of business businessSome Some high authorities in the United States army contend that racing affords the only means of sup ¬ plying our troops with cavalry remounts I of course di not know how true this may be Any ¬ how I take my orders from the Federal government I have tried to comply with every request it has made to me and I shall IKS guided by its orders in this matter At this time therefore I see no cause for immediate drastic action
