ARRANGE HORSE ENDURANCE CONTEST Army Horso Association Sending Out Circulars Describing the Affair The Army Horse Association of Washington D P but with headquarters at Omaha Xeb proposes to give horso endurance contest and has sent circulars describing the affair Entries will be open to all horses of any size or breeding so that it might be well for Kentucky breeders or horsemen to send in an entry to show that the thoroughbred is the proper army horse There will lie ten prizes the Erst being r 00 second 250 and so on down to 2 This is one of fourteen national contests for horses under saddle carrying 200 pounds The first three prize winners in each district contest will be sent east to participate in a national contest to end at the White House in October The tests are not races but endurance contests and time is a minor factor This contest starts at Kansas City Mo on September 30 and ends in Omaha Xeb October 3 The route is 2950 miles long and with the ex ¬ ception of the first three miles is located in the states of Kansas and Nebraska which comprise the eleventh district with headquarters at Omaha Xeb The average daily distance in this contest is slightly under fifty miles The object of the con ¬ tests is to awaken public interest in the production of cavalry horses the slowest of all industries and therefore the weakest link in all the chain of pre ¬ paredness The horse is playing a more important part in the war than the average citizen realizes The Government is using horses faster than the country is raising them Every resident in the district through which the contest passes and read ¬ ers of newspapers throughout the United States will learn more about army horses than they ever knew liefore From the results of a series of these contests they are to be renewed annually the Government will be able to judge the best type of horse for army purposes Stallions and mares which win prizes will be enhanced in value and will be purchased by horse breeders for use jn raising the best type of army horse Our Govern ¬ ment is backward in army horse breeding and these contests nre aimed to awaken the Government as well as the people to the importance of the army horse Any one desiring this circular or further in ¬ formation can secure it by writing the Army Horso Association Chamber of Commerce Omaha Xeb
