TRACK MERGER NEAR CONSUMMATION LEXINGTON, Ky., January 6. The proposed sale of the -stock ,iu the Douglas Park and Latonia tracks to an underwriting syndicate, which has been pending for some time, appears to le Hearing consummation, and in all probability will cause a merger of all the tracks in oieratioii in Kentucky, including Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Association in Lexington, it is now stated on good authority. The same authority said that sucli an arrangement would be eminently satisfactory to the breeders and horsemen in Kentucky. It would bring together the various factions and result in placing the racing situation in the hands of men well qualified to maintain the sport of racing on the highest plane. That the stock in the proposed holding company should Ik.- scattered among as many breeders as possible is the prevailing opinion here, and that this should return a fair dividend is also the view of those most vitally interested. This element, including as it does the representative horsemen in this state, recognizes the importance of increased values of stake races and purses, a division of the profits among charitable institutions, as well as toward the betterment of the roads and state. It is the opinion here that racing should not be overdone, that the associations in Kentucky should be maintained; primarily for the improvement of the breed and for the benefit of the breeders and owners, and not with an idea of declaring large dividends.
