LATEST METROPOLITAN TURF GOSSIP XEW YORK, X. Y., January 7. J. W. May is a visitor here for a few days. He reports that all his horses quartered at Douglas Park are in good condition. His old mare Rayberry Candle has been sold to W. Gaette for breeding purposes. It is Mr. Mays intention to start racing this year, either in Kentucky or Maryland. Joe Vendig, well-known in racing circles, has just returned from Oklahoma. He is considerably interested in the rubber tire business, and has three establishments in Tulsa and Oklahoma City. "I am not going to retire from the turf," said Mr. Vendig, "but am building up the tire business for my son. Glover Vendig, who is now in the navy. Glover never saw but one horse race in his life, so he is not adapted for that, hence my efforts in the rubber game."
