PREPARE FOR RACING IN CANADA Ontario Josltev Club Announces Running of Kings Plate, Entrias for Which Close March 4. TORONTO, Oat., January 30. The first official act toward the resumption of racing in Canada! was taken today when secretary W. P. Fraser of the Ontario Jockey Club sent out entry blanks for the 1919 Kings Plate, the oldest turf fixture run continuously in America. No date is announced for the running of the Plate, but the conditions provide for a value of ,750. which includes the fifty guineas donated by the king. Last year the Plate was run May 24 at Woodbine Park Svithout betting, and the Ontario Jockey Club added ,000 to his majestys guineas. This year the value was raised to the old sum which prevailed before the order in council was passed in 1917 bv the Dominion government. The stakes this year will be divided as follows: ,500 and the guineas to the winner, ,000 to the second horse, 00 to the third and 00 to the breeder of the winner. The distance is one mile and a. quarter and the club reserves the right to cancel the .race if it is thought advisable to do so. Entries close on the 4th of March, and the expectation is that the race will Ik; run at Woodbine as usual on the opening day of the spring meeting, which will probably be May 17. The Ontario Jockey Club entry blanks also contain conditions for the Breeders Stakes, S2.000 added, and Maple Leaf Stakes. ,000 added, to be run in 1920, and the Stanley Produce Stakes, ,500 added, to lie run in 1922, all for Canadian-bred horses.
