SURPRISE OF HOT SPRINGS MEETING MEETINGHOT HOT SPRINGS Ark April C One of the sur ¬ prises of the Oaklawn meeting has been the good class of the twoyearolds shown and quite a few which have raced here that will make it interest ¬ ing for the juveniles up north this spring and next summer if they do not go amiss in the meantime At the opening of the meeting racing secretary J B Campbell was worried because of the small number of youngsters on hand as he had planned to devote one race each day to them and there were not enough here to fill them themUpon Upon only a few occasions have the twoyear old races Had to be declared off because of a lack of entries but what youngsters have gone to the post have shown plenty of ability to run and the good ones seldom get in spots where they stand out For instance St Allan which was heralded as being the best of the juvenile division here be ¬ fore the meeting opened was forced to stand the hardest kind of a drive and break a track record in muddy going to beat Zone dArmee by a scant half length The praise for St Allan and his won ¬ derful performance had not died out when it was discovered that trainer Early Wright the same man who brought him here had another twoyearold which he prized far more highly AVestwood and his sale for 12000 makes it look as though he was not the only one who thought him a wonder AVest ¬ wood has never been seen under colors having es ¬ tablished a reputation solely on workouts and his debut is awaited with much interest by racing fans fansGiving Giving all due credit to the reported cracks it must be said that there was never a more popular twoyearold anywhere than Red Red Rose the little miss which is sporting the colors of the Greentree Stable under the guidance of trainer Mose Goldblatt here Game to the core and endpyed with plenty of speed she has all the requisities of a highclass racer and she never gives up She won two races here which gave her a chance to display her remarkable gameness getting up both times to get the verdict by the margin of a nose In botli races she was apparently hopelessly beaten a six teolith of a mile from the wire and her two finishes wtre of the pliiimmenal sort Slio is a wellbred filly by AVhisk Broom II Cardamiue and if she does not make her mark in Kentucky veteran turf ¬ men who have Keen her in action both here and at New Orleans will miss their guess Trainer GOld blatt is letting her take tilings eapy now and has announced that her next start will be in Kentucky Where gbe UUB sonje stake engagements
