FEWER KENTUCKY YEARLINGS FOR SALE J 0 Kcono Says Number to Be Sent to Saratoga Sales Will Be Comparatively Small NEW YORK N Y July 11 Major Thos Mc ¬ Dowell and J O Keene arrived here today from Kentucky The former will travel on to Saratoga Where I can get some sleep to use his expres ¬ sion and Mr Keene will go back to Kentucky They are here to consult with other owners and trainers in regard to the purchase of a controlling interest in the Havre de Grace track The meeting is to be held tonight Both are enthusiastic about the racing situation in Kentucky The associations made money said Mr Keene and there was over 600000 distributed among the horsemen all of which accentuates the thoroughbred conditions in this country countryIn In speaking of the Kentucky yearlings to be sold this year at Saratoga Mr Keene said he did not think there would be more than one hundred and fifty shipped from that state for sale Heretofore there has been between 300 and 400 on the market This year continued Mr Keene any breeder who has a prospective winner of stakes is going to keep it and train it The rich purses and stakes now being distributed is the incentive I have eleven Luke McLukc yearlings and I am going to train all of them believing they will realize better returns by so doing There are many others breeders who will do likewise likewiseMajor Major McDowell said he would sell his yearlings at Saratoga and race older horses I am afraid I shall not be able to run the twoyearold High Command until late in the Saratoga season but Distinction will be ready early to meet all comers was the assertion of Major McDowell Kentucky is going to send east good horses this year and Miss Jemima will give Bonnie Mary or Panoply a race I feel certain Asked if anything had been shown the equal of Billy Kelly last years champion Mr Keene thought Miss Jemima might be as good Major McDowell was noncommittal on the ques ¬ tion
