HOPE ETERNAL AMONG THE CANADIANS Turfmen Across the Border Expect Resumption of Racing Soon After Proclamation of Peace TORONTO Ont July 11 Canadian horsemen are greatly interested in the date of the royal proclama ¬ tion of peace as it is understood when that event transpires all orders in council passed under the war measure act by the Dominion government will automatically expire The order in council con ¬ cerning racing prohibited betting on tracks for the duration of the war and six months thereafter but is conceded that the six months clause is in ¬ operative as all orders in council cease to be ef ¬ fective the moment peace is declared and cannot be extended except by an act of parliament parliamentSome Some people think the war ends when peace is celebrated throughout the British empire on July 19 but it is said that this assumption is not correct and that the war does not legally end until at least three of the great allied powers including Great Britain ratify the peace treaty which has al ¬ ready been ratified by Germany This it is expected will take place by the middle of August AugustThe The racing people are all ready to race just as soon as it is legal Many Canadian horsemen have been racing in the States and others have had their horses in training at the various track in expecta ¬ tion of the early resumption of the sport sportThe The local half milers have installed the mutuel betting machines at Dufferin Park and Hillcrest A M Orpea lesee of the former track is in New York today and at his office it was stated they had no idea when racing would be resumed It is pre ¬ sumed it would be when the royal proclamation is issued issuedW W P Fraser secretary of the Ontario Jockey Club when asked for his views on the subject said Peace has been declared Great Britain and I know that the clubs of the Canadian Racing As ¬ sociations have been in readiness to conduct race meetings since spring I hope we shall see racing next fall and tliat the Prince of Wales will be given the opportunity to see the sport during his visit to Canada
