ROAMER POPULAR AS EVER Great Ovation Given Old Geldjng After Defeating Sun Briar Startling Suddenly Improved and andat at Long Odds Wins Myrtle MyrtleSelling Selling Stakes NEW YORK N Y July 11 Another large crowd gathered at the Aqueduct course attracted by a promising card and fine weather on the closing day of the spring meeting They saw Roamer re ¬ turn to his old glory Sun Briars return to the races the Myrtle Selling Stakes todays feature won by Startling and the upset of several choices choicesRoamer Roamer came back to his own when he defeated Sun Briar LErrant and Duchess Lace in the three quarters dash Following jLErrant and Sun Briar which was making his first appearance of the year and a heavily supported favorite the famous old Knight Errant gelding was saved to the final three sixteenth where he joined the Kilmer candidate and where LErrant tired Schuttinger and Loftus both applied their lashes anil Roamer drew away Wild applause such as has not been heard on an eastern track this season greeted the winner on his return to the judges stand and Schuttinger was equally applauded when he approached the scales Sun BrlarJsqerfoqnxac ia3LbeJt faB n indl cation of the form he should display with continued racing The big Sundridge colt appeared in fine fettle for his first effort since last Saratoga After his performances there he was retired to Mr Kil ¬ mers stud at Binghampton N Y where he stood for the fall season Today on his return he raced under 130 pounds and was beaten about a length iu 112 Startling showing sudden improvement raceu away from his ODponents in the early running and the favorite Damrosch was driven hard but vainly to catch him in the stretch drive When Startling was offered for sale after his Victory T C Elwell advanced him 1000 over his entered price but his owner retained him with the customary 5 bid Matinee Idol heavily backed W this race suffered from some interference in the early running and was never prominent afterwards REPUTED CRACK IS BEATEN BEATENH H P Whitneys filly Cobwebs proved too fast for the highpriced colt Brookholt in the closing dash of the afternoon Brookholt took the lead entering the stretch but was quickly displaced by the filly which when called on easily drew away awayThe The Frenchbred Faisan Dore heavily backed won the initial dash in a canter Clarence Buxtons old campaigner Sasin accounted for the longdistance race on the card He began slowly but gained steadily caught Ordnly the pacemaker tiring in the last eighth ind racing him into defeat easily drew away at the end Poor Butterfly the favorite in the race suffered from poor ride rideThe The mile dash run as the fifth race went to the credit of the Quincy Stable Comme Ci snatching victory from Coaler in the Stretch and easily draw ¬ ing away at the end endAssociate Associate judge McClelland was an arrival from Latonia Others who came were E K Thornton Jas Ackermann and Remy Dorr of New Orleans OrleansFaison Faison Dore was claimed by W T Wilkinson for 2500 Paul Connolly claimed Poor Butterfly for 1735 Thomas Francis and J B Dunn were each fined 200 fur violation of Rule 184 which prohibits col ¬ lusion in transfers in claiming and selling races Lord Herbert provided the medium for their offense The horse was returned to Mrs T Francis
