ADVANTAGE OF INSIDE POST POSITIONS Figures Show That Positions from No 1 to No 5 3 urnishes Greatest Number of Winners WinnersNEW NEW YORK N Y July il Frequent iliscus slons occur between racegoers as to the best post positions for horses at the start of races A record of ixtynine races have been gone over at Aqueduct during the preset meeting and the result is not only interesting but enlightening showing that inside positions of horses have much to do with the result of races in a large majority of cases casesTo To a certain extent the statistics gathered de dide that inside positions from No 1 to No 5 fur ¬ nish the greatest number of winners This is due somewhat to the small fields that have been sent to the post at Aqueduct and which perforce Rives a greater aggregate to the first five irasitions Strange to say no horse has won from a further out position Ihan No 11 in fact only two winners are recorded from that point while not a horse won either from the chute or over longer courses which held No 10 post position positionThe The most advantageous starting point according to the records are No 2 and No 5 both for races round the turn and out of the chute In the chute races there have been five winners from each of these positions and in the longer races there have been nine winners front No 5 position and eight from No 2 or seventeen out of twentyseven races run around the turns Strange as it may seem there have been but two winners from No 1 position which la generally thought to be the more ad ¬ vantageous out of the finite or inly about eight per cent yet No 1 position at the post has fre ¬ quently been the deciding incentive to speculators speculatorsFrom From the figures collected it would seem there is little to choose between No 1 and No 5 positions at the post Exceptions might be made for fast or slow beginning horses but as a rule one position appears to be as good as another providing all other calculations are satisfactory A slow be ¬ ginner with a rail position is at a disadvantage owing to the usual crowding but a fast beginner with ah inside position can be given decided pref ¬ erence as it escapes the customary troubles The records show that fast beginning horses are re ¬ sponsible for the large proportion of winners from the first five positions The one convincing feature of the appended table shows that out of the twenty five chute races prescribed but four were won from positions further out than sixth This indicates that an inside position is decidedly advantageous in races run down the nearstraight course at f Aqueduct The same rule practically applies in longer faces The following table will give a lucid idea of what to expect from a post position standpoint in races run at Aqueduct both from the chute and around the turn turnRaces Races around the turn Post positions I 2 3 45 G 7 8 9 10 ll Winners 68 34 93 32 4 0 2 2Races Races run down the cliute Postpositions 1 23 4 5 6 7 8 910 910Winners Winners
