moving spirit in the management of the Empire City course and presid ¬ ing steward at Havre de Grace Maryland and Ori ¬ ental Park Havana Cuba was an arrival this morning Mr Fitz Gerald came up from Goshen N Y where lie managed the Memorial trotting meet ¬ ing given by Mrs E H Hnrriman at the Goshen ourse This meeting which is a betless one and conducted pretty much on lines which cater to amateur reinsmen was and for that matter has always been a great success It is one of the biggest sporting events of its kind ill that part of the state and is patronized by immense throngs Mr Fitz Gerald was delayed in his arrival here on account of a rainy spell which set in at Goshen after the first days racing He was to have been here tlie early part of tlie week Like other of ¬ ficials of the CubaAmerican Jockey Club he pre ¬ dicts a banner meeting at Oriental Park next winter He says that several owners of the larger estab ¬ lishments racing in the east have spoken to him of sending to Cuba a division of their stables and that the outlook is most glowing glowingWord Word was received by tlie friends of Jimmy John ¬ ston yesterday that he Lad suffered another stroke nt his home in Jamaica Johnston was forced to relinquish his position as trainer of the Crown Stable last spring after being stricken with paraly sis Up to a few days ago he was progressing favorably and it was hoped that he would be up and about again shortly to resume Me duties as trainer His latest setback moans that he will be incapaci ¬ tated for some time a week here in theInterests of the fall meetings nt Laurel and Pimlico He motored back to Maryland and will spend tlie night at Cooperstown X Y as the guest of F Ambrose Clark We will make every effort to take care of every horseman who wishes to participate at cither of our meetings said Mr Riggs before leaving Many of the smaller owners have elected to ship from here direct to Timonhun Park where five days of racing will be daughter recently caused him much worry and is probably responsible for tlie bad turn he took a few days back John Evans one of the old brigade who has been acting as manager of the Seagram establish ¬ ment in recent years is also reported to be quite ill at Mr Seagrams home place Waterloo WaterlooThe The twoyearold Arrow Point came out of his last race in rather bad condition The colt was Jumped on just below the hock and all but liamr strung Tlie cut is about four inches long and trainer Bill Perkins has put him away for tlie time being but hopes to bring him back tor the fall races in Kentucky I knew that something must have happened to tlie colt when he quit so suddenly said Perkins He is a game young ¬ ster and always does his best When he came back to the judges stand I
