all the way with the greatest ease and the others doing the best they could behind him He ran the first mile in 136 and won easing up in 202 That he could have covered the distance in much less time was manifest It was equally manifest that Sir Barton and Purchase have a dangerous competitor In this chestnut son of Olambala War Pennant ran a grand race himself but simply had no chance with Hannibal in the latters present superb form Thun ¬ derclap ran a good race and is above the average Cirrus ran so badly as to suggest that he has been much overrated or Is completely out of form finishing a faraway last OUTSIDER FIRST IN SPINAWAY SPINAWAYThe The Spinaway Stakes brought seventeen highbred fillies to the post W R Coes pair Cleopatra and Masked Dancer coupled were Jield at 3 to 1 and H P Whitneys Afternoon was second choice at 4 to 1 Masked Dancer had a chance and rap second to midway of the homestretch then dis ¬ appeared but Cleopatra and Afternoon were so badly away as to practically have no chance Constancy an English filly recently bought by J K L Ross was away first and won all the way She may have been lucky in having her most formidable opponents removed frcmcpmpetition but she showed such speed and ran so fust that she might have won anyhow Two outsiders Wedding Cake at 20 to 1 and Germa nt 25 to 1 were second and third respectively with Homely and Ethel Gray which ran great races from where they got off following heads and necks away awayA A K Macombers colors were carried to victory in the opening dash a race for threeyearold fillies at threequarters of a mile when War Kiss defeated Bub Mays Joyful after a hotly contested final eighth drive It was nip and tuck between War Kiss and Fifi II for the first half of a mile before the latter retired Here Joyful under Mus graves vigorous riding took up the issue and gave the leader a terrific battle until the final sixteenth where she tired under severe punishment War Kjss gamely
