Weather forecast: Illinois Partly cloudy weather, probably with local thundershowers late tonight or Sunday; somewhat cooler In north and central portions. General forecast: The indications are for local thundershowers on Sunday from the -western lake region southwestward to southeastern Kansas and southern Missouri; otherwise generally fair weather will prevail in this forecast district until Sunday night. The temperature will be lower from the northern plains states eastward to Wisconsin tonight and in the upper Mississippi Valley and the western lake region Sunday. WASHINGTON, D. C, August 23. After having told William Cummings, the British charge dar-chives in Mexico City, that his presence in Mexico was deemed "incompatible with the state in which relations between this" government and Great Britain have stood and do now stand," the Mexican foreign office is understood to have relented and Mr. Cummings expects to remain in the Mexican capital. WASHINGTON, D. C, August 23. By a vote of 9 to 8 the senate foreign relations committee approved an amendment to the peace treaty transferring German rights in Shantung to China instead of to Japan. Senator Lodge offered the amendment, by which the word "Japan" is stricken from the Shantung sections of the treaty and the word "China" substituted. All the Democratic members and Senator MeComber Rep. of North Dakota voted against the amendment. CHICAGO, 111., August 23. The "devil dogs" came into their own today when Chicago put on her most gladsome raiment and fared forth to do them homage. Heroes of the Argonnc, Soissons, Canligny, Chateau Thierry, Relleau Woods and Sedan, many of whom are still in the service and expect soon to return overseas, marched proudly in review through the downtown streets to the accompaniment of wave upon wave of cheers which literally shook tiie loop with their volume. SAX FRANCISCO, Cal., August 23. The army transport Dix, carrying 1,500 troops for Siberian replacement, is swinging idly at army docks here, her departure delayed by a strike of her crew. These men demand a wage increase to equal the remuneration received by shipping board sailors. The transport Sheridan, which brought in 1,000 troops from Siberia, will be laid up for repairs. PARIS, France, August 23. Germany, according to reports reaching the bureau of. industrial reconstruction, has returned to France 27,000 tons of material taken during the. war. A similar quantity is being loaded for shipment. Three hundred thousand pieces of Frencli machinery, it is said, already have been identified in Germany. MARFA, Tex., August 23. Pursuit of Mexican bandits by the American punitive expedition is continuing south from the point in Mexico where an American camp has been established, it was announced today. The trails are not considered "hot," however, as the bandits have reached the mountain fastnesses, and it is feared have escaped. DULUTH, Minn., August 23. Federal agents today seized 180,410 pounds of frozen fish held in local cold storage. Most of the fish, it is asserted, has been in cold storage since March, 1918. Fifty thousand pounds were taken from C. C. Robins of Chicago. DEVILS LAKE, N. D., August 23. A report reached this city at noon that the forest fires in Montana had reached Glacier National Park and that Great Northern train No. -1 was four hours late, due to picking up tourists fleeing" from the park.
