LOUISVILLES SECOND DAY Purse Racing the Order and Over a Heavy Track. : Sway Wins the Feature Without Trouble and Pictor Runs Disappointingly. LOUISVILLE, Ky., October 24. Improved weather was responsible for another generous patronage at Churchill Downs. A purse race with ,200 added nt the odd mile and three-sixteenths distance featured, and despite his hard race of the day before it furnished an easy victory for Sway, with Omond in second place and the newcomer, Pictor, recently acquired by C. AV. Clark, landing in third place. Sways victory was achieved in the most easy style, and Van Dunsen did not have to release him from restraint to accomplish his success. Pic-tors showing was disappointing. " His connections held him in high favor and lie flattered by maintaining the lead for the first half mile, but he retired quickly when it came to a real drive. The track was still in a bad way, the early morning fogs that prevailed here prevented it from drying to any appreciable extent. Track conditions did not seem to bother the backers, for they indulged in speculation in confident fashion and the most of them were eminently successful, for most of the winners oame from the favorites. Many of the contests were productive of close finishes, with the winners barely getting up in time to get the decision. Lady Luxury scored her third successive victory in the opener and started the public off in good style- by her performance, for she ruled favorite. Accelerate, uuoihcrbort-priced, .one, scored aj runiywnjr -victory-in" the second race anil" won as her rider pleased. Discussion, another favorite, just managed to get home in the third race in front of Skiles Knob. This marked the first winner that Robinson has piloted during the present meeting. Bobby Allen and Wild Flower had a hammer and tong finish in .the fourth race, with Hobby Allen winning. Tullet. the owner-trainer-jockey of Bobby Allen, claimed Friz out of the race for S3.000. Redmon, a well backed one, furnished the upset In the sixth race, and Mistress Polly took the final dash. Bandymo was claimed in the closing race for ,000 by J. A. Ouncheon. The latest revised list of stall applications for the Fair Grounds, New Orleans, .track is G92, made by the more prominent owners racing here. O. A. Blanchi has added Redland to his string, having acquired him by private purchase from Mrs. M. A. Merle. The latest advice from the east is that Henry MeDaniel will sever connections with the V. S. Kilmer stable as trainer for next year. He will take over the horses of It. L. Jerry. The Churchill Downs management is making elaborate preparations for next Tuesday, which will be military day and Pershings Own. the Fighting First boys, will be guests of the Kentucky Jockey Club. It is expected that all the officers and men that enn be absent from Camp Taylor will witness the racing on that date at the Downs. P. Dunne has again decided on a winters campaign and will ship his horses to New Orleans at the close of racing here.
