MANY ARRIVALS AT NEW ORLEANS Sixty Head from Laurel Reach Southern Racing Scene Improvements Being Completed. NEW ORLEANS, La.V November 5. Nearly a hundred thoroughbreds" afrived at New Orleans yesterday and were unloaded at the Fair Grounds or Jefferson Park. A "special of six baggage cars reached here from Laurel Witli more than sixty head aboard. Included in the shipment were horses in charge of Archie Zimmer, Tom Shannon, Dr. P. J. - Sullivan. William Sfiteedy, C. W. Gasser, C. N. Freeman, C. W, Crippen, O. E; Pons, S. Shaw and Peter Byrne. Byrne brought down the highly-rated three-year-old War Musk; the property of the?well-known boxer, Johnnie Dundee. War- Mask will be an addition to the handicap division- here. Under Fire is still another thrcc-year-old of good class to arrive. G. D. Bryan, Jr., part owner of the Jefferson Park track, arrived this morning. He reports a great mnvemerit of touristTisitors and homeseekers south. Bryaii was pleased with the sweeping improvements made- at Jefferson .Park. The tracks at Shrewsbury and at the Fair Grounds are in good condition. Even after a terrible downpour Tuesday morning in the afternoon both were fast drying out. Judge Joseph A. Murphy, who will be presiding steward at- both Jefferson Park and the Fair Grounds, was another arrival. He will leave in a few days for Bowie, where lie will officiate until Jefferson Park opens. Work is being rushed on- the roofing of the Fair Grounds barns.- The grandstand, through a shortage of labor, is several weeks behind- schedule, but the contractors are doing their.; best. Tiles are being placed on the roof now and the interior work is progressing as well as: can be expected under the circumstances. Two trainloads of thoroughbreds arrived here today from; .Kentucky, some unloading at Jefferson Park and .others taking quarters at the Fair Grounds, hicluded in the shipment was the pretentious string in charge- of - Mose Goldblatt, who trains a section, of the H. P, Whitney stable. The stables of J. O. Talbot, J. W. McClelland, Charles Hawk, Fred Staton and a number of others also arrived, and the -big. .job of allotting .stables to them is keeping the office forces of both race courses busy. , . . Among the jockeys which, arrived today were Morys, Mooney, Smith, Rideuour and Connelly. They all want to be early on the scene so as to be able to get right on the job at Jefferson Park.
