CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF The body of trainer Harry Shannon, who died at Montreal Tuesday, lias been shipped to Brooklyn for burial. Le Balafre was claimed by B. Mock for ,100 out of the seventh race at Mount Royal Park on Wednesday. The Dnfferin Park fall meeting will bo held from September 9 to September 10 and no purse will m; less than 00. Cecil Rowe, who is interested In the stable with B. Mock now racing at Mount Royal Park, has been in ill health for some time and lias gone to his homo in Rochester, X. Y. Senator James pulled up lame after the third race at Mount Royal Park Thursdav. The horsemen are complaining of the track being too hard and a great many horses that have been racing there have pulled up sore. The French official "Calendar" announces that the late Mr. W. K. Vanderhilfs horses will run in the name of M. Ituigers-Leroy, and contains the registration of a partnership between that gentleman, Mrs. Vanderhilt the Duchess of Marlborough, and Messrs. H. S. and W. K. Vanderbilt, Jr. Funeral services were held Wednesday for John W. Thorp, .90, father of the late Frank W. Thorp, turf writer and racing official, who died at his home in Brooklyn on Sunday. Mr. Thorp was one of the organizers and first commodore of the Harlem Yacht Club and for many years deputy sheriff in Xew York. The Anglo-French sire Gorgos, whose best son, Sourbier, won this years French Derby, died a few-years ago in France. He was by Ladas The Gorgon, by St. Simon, 17 years old, and a good race horse in his day, winning the Two Thousand Gniu- eas of 1900. He was owned by the puke of Gra- niont, who bought Gorgos in 1907 for 0,000. J I I
