H I STQR I CAL SAROG A COP Entry List for This Years Running in Keeping With Best Traditions : of One of " Foremost of Americas Races. One of the foremost of American races is the long-established Saratoga Cup. First run in 1805, it has had a memorable history, sparkling, with the performances of some of the greatest horses seen on the American turf. The Cup is a weight-for-age race and has always been at a distance of, sufficient length to bring out the-best qualities of the thoroughbred. Kentucky was its first -winner and the son of Lexington came back the following year and again won at. Longfellow was the -victor in 1871, . followed by Harry Bassett. Springbok, after winning in 1874, came back in 1875 and dead-heated for it with Preakness. Parole carried off the. Cup in 1877 and 1878, and General Monroe did llkcwiso in 1883: and 1884. Coming down to more recent years. Sir Dixon, Advance Guard, Africander, Beldame. Caughiiawaga, Olam-balu, Roamer, Friar Rock, Omer Khayyam, Johren and Exterminator arc names to conjure with that are found among the list of the Cup winners. And from the list of cligibles to this years decision of this noted race the winner will be worthy to be included with the stars! names above. All the crack racers of- the older division, such as Sir Barton, Exterminator, Boniface, Cirrus, Billy Kelly, Audacious, Sunny Slope, Mad Hatter, Lucul-lite. Be Frank and others arc named, as are also many of the best three-year-olds of the year, and including Man o War. The Cup will be run on the last day of the Saratoga meeting and the field will come from among the following Saratoga Cup, ?3,000 Added For three-year-olds and over. By subscription of 0 each.
