R. L NELSON SCORES TWICE Retreat and Dottas Best Win for Him at Thorhcliffe Devonshire Stockholders Meet. TORONTO, Ontario, September 23. A series of claiming races made up the card at Thorncliffe Park this afternoon, but the fields were evenly balanced and productive of interesting sport. R. L. Nelson provided two of the winners in Retreat and Dottas Best, both of which had won their previous races at this meeting. Despite this fact, they returned good dividends. In both races the Nelson color-bearers led their opponents throughout, but were hard pressed to win by half-length margins. W. C. Wcant saddled his eighth winner at this meeting when Anzuc took the second race. She Devil and Hush won their respective races by narrow margins after hard stretch drives. Ideal conditions again prevailed and the attendance was up to the mark for a midweek day. A number of stables departed today for the Chagrin Falls meeting near Cleveland, among them B. A. Jones, E. E. Major, J. Cooper, Al Luzader, J. R. Hall, J. D. Lanahan and E. R. Miller. The majority of the others which raced at this meeting will remain here for the Woodbine Park autumn meeting, which opens Saturday. J. C. Ferris Retta B. broke down badly during the running of the last race yesterday. II . Tulletts Billie II., . which established a new three-quarter-mile track record here yesterday, died last night of acute indigestion. Four head of J. K. L. Ross string, including; Boniface, His Choice, Baby Grand and Dancing Maid, arrived at Woodbine Park this morning. Boniface is a candidate for the Toronto Autumn Cup. the feature of Saturdays card. $ At a meeting of the stockholders of Devonshire Park, which was held in Montreal this week, the following directors were elected: W. O. Vollott, J. F. Reed, P. J. England, Windor J. Mackenzie Toronto, G. H. Keene. James Arthur, Win. Garth, G. K. Bryson and Bradley Wilson. The general office of the association has been removed to Windsor, where a meeting of the directors will take place next week for the purpose of electing a president. W. O. Wollett is most likely to be elected to that office. A voting trustee agreement is being signed by the directors, making James Arthur, G. II. Keene and Bradley Wilsou trustees for three years, on the same principle as Havre de Grace is being operated.
