BELDAME HANDICAP WINNER Crocus Easily Takes Good Stake Race for Her Owner. V Georgie Runs a Fast Mile in Defeating Wyoming Old Prince Qf Como Wins. AQUEDUCT, X. Y., September 23. The Beldame Handicap for two-year-old fillies at five-eighths of n mile featured the card at Aqueduct this afternoon. H. P. Whitneys Crocus, by Broomstick Inaugural, proved an easy winner, with E. F. "Whitneys Bv jiminy second and the Foreign Stables Teii-Lec" third. The field was well bunched when it rounded the elbow out of the chute. At this point jockey Ensor brought Crocus into the lead, which she held to the finish, having an advance of three lengths over By Jiminy. The latter ran im-presslvelyi From a slow beginning she worked her way through the middle of the field and got up in tm last twenty yards to beat Ten-Lee, the second choice, for second place. Crocus closed at odds-on. The stakes were worth ,725 to the winner. Withdrawals reduced the third race, a purse at one mile, to four starters. Wyoming was installed an odds-on choice, but in the running he followed the Bedstone Stables Star Shoot Fair Atalanta colt Georgie from the rise of the barrier and at the finish was four lengths back of Georgie. Jockey Cnllahari was off quickly with Georgie and, giving jiitn av-exfectxide, - finished,,, the v,inJle.4.uu JL:38-. Wyoming, was doing his best under a vigorous ride from jockey Ensor, but he could never get up. Al- Inert A. was third three lengths in front of Anniversary. W. Gentry, colored steeplechase jockey, made good in his first mount over the obstacles when he rode Fair Mac to victory in the second race. Only three started. Surf ruling a slight choice over Fair Mac. These two meed together most of the way. At the last jump Fair Mac drew away and was twelve lengths in front at the finish. Prince Hal II. was a distant follower throughout. Fourteen of the overnight entries were scratchew out of the opening dash, leaving only seven to contest. Prince of Como was made the favorite and he von easily from The Nephew, second choice, with Btirgoyne third. The latter was the pacemaker until the field straightened out in the stretch, when Prince of Como raced into the lead and beld it to the end. The Nephew began slowly, but closed up ground and came fast in the last sixteenth and beat Burgoyne a half length for second place. P. J. Lavin claimed The Nephew from Frederick Johnson out of the first race for ,000. M. Kornbloom purchased Pierre-a-Feu from L. W. Garth on private terms. The horse will be trained by E. D. Springer. John E. Madden, who has been in Kentucky for the past week, returned to Aqueduct. Col. E. I?. Cassatt, who formerly raced under the tricolor worn by The Bard and other great racers, was a visitor at Aqueduct.
