PLATERS DAY AT HAVRE Despair and Wild Thoughts Win for J. W. McClelland Jockey Jarvis Rides Two Winners. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., September 27. Platers held sway at Havre this afternoon and provided thrilling sport despite absence of class in the makeup of the program. The Aberdeen Purse, for two-year-olds at three-quarters of a mile, was the nearest thing to a feature offered. J. W. McClelhtnds McGee Mary Davis colt. Despair, scored his second consecutive victory, winning from Superwonian and Due de Morny. Sehut-tinger made most of the pace with him and iheld on well to outlast Superwonian, which came fast through the best footing in the center of the track-after being jerked back going to the turn. Two other races for- two-year-olds were included on the card, one for maiden juveniles and the other for lion -winners of two races. The first of these fell to Mrs. W. M. Jeffords Ballot Enterprise filly Perfection, ridden by E. Haynes. The winner saved ground turning for home and, racing in the heavier going, just got up. The other two-year-old affair was easy for Wild Thoughts. The Ivan the Terrible Dream Girl filly provided the second win of the day for the colors of J. W. McClelland. The victory of Viltl Thoughts also was the medium of the second win of the day for jockey Jarvis, the promising apprentice under contract to Mr. McClelland. Jarvis opportunity for a double came through the graduation from the apprentice ranks of C. Ponce when he piloted Archie Alexander to victory in the fourth race. Ponce was engaged to ride Mumbo Jumbo in the fifth, but relinquished the mount to Jarvis, who handled the gelding well and saved him long enough to withstand a challenge by Martha Luckett in a finish which brought alwut one of those disputed decisions. Nine cars of horses were shipped from here to Laurel, included in the consignment bping the charges of H. G. Redwell and the bulk of the W. J. Salmon string in charge of trainer Wayland. W. A. Burttschell, S. A. Clopton. R. J. Miller and R. Richardson were some of the others shipping iu the first consignment. H. P. ConUling will accept entries Wednesday and Thursday for the opening at Laurel. Mrs. W. M. Jeffords Doctor Johnson was schooled through the field this afternoon. It is believed lie will make a useful timber topper if he can be cured of his roguish ways. Harvey Boyle, former steeplechase rider, was a visitor at the course today. Willie Daly is an arrival from Cuba, where he went to look over the horses in his charge there. James F. Sheridan, the Crown Stable steeplechaser, has been fired. D. Shaw has fired Soldat de Verdun and turned him out. This shifty racer will be taken up for winter racing. George Peterson ships back to New- York at the conclusion of this meeting. Jockey Ponce will accompany Iiiin to the metropolis.
